On this page
This article walks you through buying courses on your training site, from browsing the catalog to what happens right after payment. It is written for learners buying for themselves; if you are buying several seats for a team, also see the group leader guide linked at the end.
Where to find it
- The course catalog is at /courses on your training site, and the shop at /products. Your site's menu may link to one or both, depending on its theme.
- Your cart is at /cart and checkout is at /checkout.
- After you sign in, the learner panel at /learner holds everything post-purchase: My Courses (your enrolled courses), Orders (purchase history), and Redeem Code (for access codes). The sidebar's View Courses link takes you back to the public catalog.
Buying a course
- Browse the catalog at /courses or the shop at /products and open the course you want.
- On the course page, use the "Buy this course" box to add it to your cart. If the course offers bulk seat pricing, a price table shows the per-seat price at each quantity.
- Open your cart at /cart. Here you can change quantities, remove items, and apply a promotional code.
- Continue to checkout at /checkout. Fill in your billing details, tick the terms and conditions checkbox, and enter your card details.
- Click Place Order. When payment succeeds you land on a confirmation page showing your order number, line items, any discounts, tax, and the total.
If your order total is zero (a free course, or discounts covering the full price), the card fields are skipped and you can place the order without entering payment details.
Event tickets go through this same cart and checkout; see Events, sessions, and tickets.
Checking out without an account
You can shop and check out without signing in, but the purchase always ends up attached to an account:
- At checkout, enter your details and choose a password. Account creation is required for guests, so the "Create an account" box is always on.
- Place the order. Your account is created with the email you entered, but you are not signed in automatically.
- After payment completes, you receive an email with a verification link. Open it, then sign in at /login with the password you chose. Your purchase is already waiting in My Courses.
If checkout tells you an account with your email already exists, follow its log in link. You are brought straight back to checkout, and your cart items are still there.
Buying more than one seat of a course is a team purchase: checkout asks for a group name and sets you up as a group leader so you can invite and manage your group. See Buying seats for your group.
Discounts
Three kinds of savings can show up on an order:
- Promotional codes. Apply the code in your cart at /cart. It carries into checkout and appears there as a "Discount" line with the code name. Codes can be a percentage or a fixed amount off.
- Subscription discounts. If you hold a subscription whose plan includes a standing course discount, checkout automatically adds a "Subscription Discount" line naming your plan. It applies to courses only (not bundles, events, or physical items) and is calculated by the site, so there is nothing to enter.
- Bulk pricing. Buying several seats of the same course can earn a quantity price break, from either the course's own price table or your subscription plan's bulk bands.
Discounts stack in a fixed order: bulk pricing first, then any subscription discount, then your promotional code, with tax worked out on what you actually pay.
Using an access code
If your provider or organization gave you an access code:
- Sign in and open Redeem Code in the learner panel (/learner/redeem).
- Enter the code and submit it.
- You are enrolled immediately in everything the code covers, whether that is a single course, several courses, or a bundle. No payment is involved.
Each code can be redeemed once per person. Some codes only work for members of a specific organization, and codes can expire or have a limited number of uses.
After your purchase
- You are enrolled in every course in the order; a bundle enrolls you in each course it contains.
- A purchase confirmation arrives by email and as an in-app notification, with a link back to your receipt page.
- Your courses appear under My Courses, and the order appears under Orders with its status and full details.
- An order may briefly show as "Processing" while it is finalized. The confirmation page updates automatically, and the order completes even if you close the page.
Why did this happen?
Why did checkout make me create an account?
Your purchase is delivered as an enrollment, and enrollments, progress, and certificates all need an account to live on. Guests therefore always set a password during checkout, and the account is created when the order is placed. You verify your email after payment and then sign in normally.
Why is my cart empty on another device or on a different site address?
The cart is stored in your browser, separately for each website address. Items added on one device, or on one address (for example an organization's own domain versus the main site), do not follow you to another. Sign-ins work the same way: being signed in on one address does not sign you in on another. Finish your purchase on the same address where you started it.
Why was my promotional code rejected?
A code is refused when it is no longer active, has expired, has reached its maximum number of uses, does not apply to any product in your cart, or was issued for a different site. The error message tells you which of these it was.
Why is there a "Subscription Discount" I never asked for?
Your subscription plan includes a standing percentage off every course purchase. It is applied automatically to course items and shown on its own line, so you can see the saving before you pay rather than only on the receipt. Any promotional code is then applied to the already-reduced amount.
I paid, but the course is not in My Courses yet. Where is it?
If you checked out as a guest, verify your email and sign in first; the course is attached to your new account. Otherwise the order may still be processing for a short time; check its status under Orders. If the order shows as completed and the course still has not appeared, contact support.
Why did the card fields disappear at checkout?
Your total is zero. Free orders skip payment entirely, so no card is asked for.
