When you buy more than one seat of a course, the platform turns your purchase into a group with a pool of seats you can assign to your team. This article covers buying in bulk from the storefront, volume discounts, custom training packages, and what your purchase looks like afterwards.
Where to find it
Buying happens on your training site's public storefront:
- The course catalog is at /courses. If you are already signed in to the group leader panel at /org-admin, the sidebar item Browse Courses opens the same catalog in a new tab.
- Your cart is at /cart and checkout is at /checkout.
- If your provider offers custom training packages, the package builder is at /training-packages/build.
After you buy, everything you purchased is managed from the /org-admin panel under Groups.
Buy multiple seats of a course
- Browse the catalog at /courses and open the course you want.
- Add it to your cart, then open /cart.
- Set the quantity to the number of seats you need. The per-seat price updates as you change the quantity if volume pricing applies.
- Go to checkout. Because a course line in your cart has a quantity above one, a required Group Name field appears. This becomes the name of the group that holds your seats, so pick something you will recognize later (your team or company name works well).
- Optionally, use the Invite Team Members section to enter a name and email for each seat you want to hand out right away. You can skip this entirely and assign seats yourself after checkout.
- Complete payment.
How volume pricing works
Two kinds of quantity discount exist, and only one of them is used on a given line:
- A course's product can carry its own quantity bands (for example, a lower per-seat price once you pass a certain quantity).
- If you or your organization hold a subscription, your plan tier can carry its own bulk discount bands. When your plan has a band that matches your quantity, it replaces the product's own bands.
On top of whichever quantity discount applies, a subscription plan can also include a standing discount on course purchases. That discount is an extra benefit of holding the subscription, so it stacks with the quantity discount rather than replacing it, and it applies to courses only.
The cart and checkout show the effective per-seat price and the discount before you pay, so what you see at checkout is what you are charged.
Custom training packages
If your training site offers them, custom training packages let you build your own bundle instead of buying one course at a time:
- Open /training-packages/build.
- Pick the courses your team needs from the eligible course list.
- Set a seat count per course. Each course earns its own volume discount from its own seat count, and the total updates live as you build.
- Proceed to checkout and pay. Packages built this way are a one-time payment.
Fulfilment works like a bulk purchase: one group is created, with one seat pool per course in the package, each sized to the seat count you chose.
What you get after checkout
- A group is created, named with the Group Name you entered, and you become its group leader.
- Each course in the order becomes a seat pool inside that group, holding the number of seats you bought.
- For a regular bulk purchase, you automatically take the first seat of each course and are enrolled in it. For a custom training package, all seats start unassigned, so assign yourself one if you want to take the training too.
- Anyone you listed in the Invite Team Members section receives an invitation email. Their seat is only consumed when they accept.
From there, see Assigning seats for handing seats out.
Why did this happen?
Why was I asked for a group name at checkout?
Any course line with a quantity above one creates a group at fulfilment time, and the checkout collects the name up front so your group is recognizable from day one. If nothing in your cart has a quantity above one, the field does not appear.
Why am I already enrolled in the course I bought seats for?
A regular bulk purchase assumes the buyer wants the training too: you are automatically given the first seat of each course and enrolled. Count yourself when choosing the quantity. Custom training packages behave differently: all seats start free and nothing is assigned to you automatically.
Why does my group show fewer seats used than the people I invited?
Invitations do not consume seats. A seat is only taken when the invitee accepts the invitation (or registers with the invited email address). Until then the seat stays available and the invite sits in your group's Pending Invites list, where you can resend or cancel it.
Why did my event tickets not create a group?
Events never form a group. Each event seat is an attendee ticket, not a pool seat, and you manage the attendees you paid for from My Events in the /org-admin panel instead of from a group page.
Why did the per-seat price change when I changed the quantity?
Volume pricing is applied per quantity band. Crossing into a higher band lowers the per-seat price for the whole line, and if your subscription plan carries its own discount bands those are used instead of the course's bands.
